Summer hasn’t quite made its debut but the temperatures are definitely increasing and that means it’s time for air conditioning season. Before the heat sets in and you’re running your A/C system around the clock to stay comfortable, don’t forget to call your air conditioning technician to come out and complete your yearly ac maintenance.
In addition to an air conditioning tune-up, there are several other ways you can prepare for the cooling season before warmer weather is officially here to stay.
Don’t start taking your air conditioner apart, let a qualified technician do that, but you can clean up the space around your A/C to remove sticks and foliage that have made their way to your A/C system during the windy winter and stormy spring. Cut the grass around the system and trim back any overgrown plants or vegetation to make sure your cooling equipment is clear of debris. Keeping the airway clear can help keep your system running properly.
· Change Your Home’s Air Filters
Gordon's Service Experts will replace your home’s basic air filters when they perform your seasonal tune-up as part of your standard A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also change your HVAC air filters by yourself, and it’s recommended that you do so at least every four to eight weeks for optimal performance. If you don’t change your air filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of your family and the efficiency of your air conditioner, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your standard air conditioning service. Note that a clogged filter could possibly damage your air conditioner.
Hanging blackout drapes or window shades can help keep your home cooler and avoid the sun from heating up your home. Hanging drapes or curtains may also help keep your furniture and floors from fading or suffering from sun damage over time.
· Check Alarm Batteries
If you forgot to check the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors over daylight savings, now is the time. Don’t forget to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is running properly so you don’t end up calling your HVAC company because your system isn’t working and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider purchasing a programmable thermostat so you can adjust the temperature while you’re away and save money on your utility bills.
An annual AC tune-up service could make your system up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your utility bills.
